President Welcome

President's Welcome

Greetings!

It is once again a privilege and honor to serve as the 2018- 2020 president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter.  I would like to begin with a special thank you to our current Executive Board and Executive Committee who continue to serve the Chapter and support the National and Regional efforts.  These ladies and I are committed to the mission of Jack and Jill and towards our goal of continued excellence.

Founded in 1938, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is the oldest and largest African American family organization in the United States.  It is an organization of mothers with children ages 2 – 19, dedicated to nurturing and strengthening leadership skills in our youth to become future leaders through leadership development, community service, philanthropic giving, and volunteerism.

Currently with 70 mother members representing 109 children/teens, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter continues to be the largest it has ever been. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter was chartered in 1964 during a time when our nation was entering a period of turmoil and change.  Today, our families and communities are faced with adversities that are reminiscent of the past.  It behooves us as an organization to continue to advocate for our children, families, and communities.  We must preserve what we know to be morally and ethically good and right and instill these characteristics in our children and ALL children.  For this very reason, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter has chosen to remain “ANCHORED In Excellence: For Our Children and For Our Communities.”  We know the only way to rise above all the atrocities that are surrounding us is to always reach high and rise above, when “they go low”.  Our children must be prepared and equipped with character, knowledge and appropriate exposure. Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has done this for over 80 years.   Our founders knew what it was like to live in times such as this, and they knew what it took to empower our children and adequately prepare them. It is important for us as a chapter to maintain our focus on the mission and vision of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. as we plan every activity, every Chapter event and every community service activity. We recognize that by embracing and preserving our heritage and our history in everything we do, we will remain ANCHORED IN EXCELLENCE.

At the 43rd National Convention, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter was recognized for achieving Five Star 2.0 Excellence.  A Five Star Chapter Excellence designation is a significant organizational achievement that symbolizes the exemplary practices in the following operational areas: Membership, Programming, Chapter Operations, Financial Operations, and Community Service and Philanthropy.  The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter also received the BEST OF THE BEST in Programing Award for our Signature Fundraising Event- “A Family Affair: Wildin’ Out at the Museum.”  We are extremely proud of these designations as it exemplifies the passion and commitment of our amazing mother members.

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter remains “ANCHORED IN EXELLENCE: For Our Children and For Our Communities” through our commitment to the strengthening of our families and communities- serving as a voice locally, regionally and nationally, for ALL children, while recognizing that “WE CAN DO MORE.” A heartfelt thank you to the fabulous mother members of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. for all that each of you do to keep us “ANCHORED In Excellence: For Our Children and For Our Communities!”

Warmest Regards,
